Our School

Happendance School offers a learning-centered environment, where dance is taught as a holistic, developmentally-appropriate process connecting technical skills and creative expression. Classes are of reasonable size, affording the professionally-trained faculty the opportunity to maximize personal attention, including helping students to learn how to establish and achieve goals that match their personal interests, age, and physical development.

Classes

Creative Dance

A special class for a special age: 3-4 y.o.! Children will enjoy the use of music, props, and poetry to develop basic motor and locomotor skills. Curriculum is based on the National Standards of Dance in Education.

Creative Dance and Technique

Basic dance skills and vocabulary are introduced to ages 5-6 with an emphasis on self-expression and creativity. This class is a precursor to studying formal technique in ballet, modern, tap, or jazz. Curriculum is based on the National Standards of Dance in Education.

Introduction to Ballet, Jazz, and Contemporary

Ballet and modern dance technique are formally introduced to ages 6-7 while maintaining a strong emphasis on the creative process. This class fully prepares the student for Level 1 dance classes in ballet, jazz, and contemporary.

Ballet

Beginning levels introduce the study of French vocabulary, basic barre, and center steps. Intermediate and advanced classes focus on core strength, foot and ankle strength, and proper spinal alignment. Intermediate levels should also take pointe prep, and advanced levels should take pointe.

Contemporary/Modern

These classes focus on the basics of traditional Modern Dance techniques which include Laban/Bartenieff, Graham, Horton, Dunham, and Limón. Intermediate and Advanced classes progress to incorporation of fluidity, athleticism, and artistic voice. Curriculum is based on the National Standards of Dance in Education.

Broadway Jazz

A high-energy and unique blend of ballet, modern, lyrical, and jazz with an emphasis on strong, exaggerated movement and storytelling. Curriculum is based on the National Standards of Dance in Education.

Hip Hop/Jazz/Funk

HHJF incorporates elements of street dance with formal jazz dance and focuses on developing rhythm and coordination while encouraging individual style. Instructors are currently training or have trained under GDP Technique through the INstitue of Dancers.

Tap

Digs into creating musicality awareness with developing skills in syncopation and rhythm. Beginning through advanced levels are available. Curriculum is based on the National Standards of Dance in Education.

Jumps, Leaps, and Turns

A focused class on body alignment, centering, and extension. Utilizing drills and skills to improve the dancer's full power potential through strength and conditioning.

Acro

Acro, or AcroDance, is a dynamic genre that incorporates dance technique with acrobatic and gymnastic elements. We use safe and effective progressions to help students grow in the five divisions of Acro: flexibility, strength, balancing, limbering, and tumbling. 

Ageless Dancer

Rediscover flexibility, strength, balance, and joyful dance through this class for the mature dancer.

Private and Semi-Private Lessons

Queer Ballroom Club

Fridays, 7:00pm-8:00pm

Once a Month: $15/person drop-in rate

Join our queer ballroom club specifically designed for members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Learn and practice American, European, and Latin ballroom dance styles in a safe space free from binary gender norms and traditional heteronormative ideals. This club will meet twice a month, will be led by an LGBTQIA+ instructor, and no previous experience is necessary. All gender identities and expressions are welcome! Each month will feature a different dance style. If participants wish to perform, opportunities will be made available.
