Donate to Happendance
At the lively age of 31, Happendance is Michigan's longest-running professional modern dance company. It achieved this distinction with funding from local, state and regional sources, contributions from individuals, foundations and businesses, and earned income, as well as countless hours spent by Board members and other volunteers. Happendance would like to thank the following organizatoins for their consistent support: Thoman Foundation, Dietrich Foundation, Capital Area United Way, Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs, the City of Lansing General Funds Minigrant program, and the Ingham County Hotel-Motel Tax Fund. In addition, Happendance thanks all of the private donors that allow us to remain one of Michigan's cultural treasures!
In the last year:
- We turned 30, marking the occasion with a memorable concert, "A Village Moving," featuring Happendancers past present and future, a variety of notable choreographers from near and far, and rich collaborations with guest artists in a variety of art forms.
- We successfully launched a new junior company, Happendance 2, offering pre-professional training and performance opportunities to a select group of Happendance students.
- The professional company performed in June at Links Hall, Chicago's historic modern dance venue, as part of an interdisciplinary concert series.
- The C/d Project (Community Dance), which evolved from Happendance Choreographers Showcase, continued to grow in the public eye with important partnerships with LSS, MSU, and Everett Magnet School as well as a performance at Jazzfest.
In the coming year:
- Our Winter Concert will be Feb. 1-2 at Dart Auditorium. Under the artistic direction of Missy Bischoff, the program will feature dances about life in Lansing, a theme that will be enlarged on in 2009 with a concert that celebrates Lansing's 150th anniversary!
- We have been invited to present an evening-length concert in the Oakland Community College concert series.
- Happendance 2 and the C/d Project will continue to grow.
- We will keep bringing dance to the schools through our To Go outreach programs.
- Happendance School will continue to be at the forefront of dance instruction in the area.
Our dreams are big! But dollars for the arts have never been tighter and with no rebound in sight from any of our traditional funding sources we need your help. Show us you believe in out high ambitions!
